So after having him for 2 days and hospitalizing him for a week we ended his fight today. What started as coccidia got out of control and led to an intussusception which needed surgery. They went in today after doing a blood transfusion and realized that most of his intestines were dead and they would have to remove his entire ilium I think he said…either way, with as much damage as there was there was little to no chance of him doing well at all after it was said and done.
Even though he was only with us for 2 days I’m heart broken. We had been emailing the breeder since before he was born and we were all ready for him to really be home and a part of our family. This past week has been a lot of stress and worry and heart ache but its over now.
The breeder’s contract said that she would only replace the puppy if there was a genetic defect which this isn’t but he had to have had the coccidia when he came to us as bad as it was. We have been talking to her and she has offered us another male puppy to replace him. I want to get him because we paid so much for Bunker, I don’t want to just be out that money to her but at the same time this week has been a roller coaster and I’m scared for that again. Not to mention the vet bills we are paying now. He has been treated for and tested negative for coccidia though which makes me feel a bit better. I think if we can get something in writing that will say if we have the same issues that we will get our money back then we will go for it. Its the last thing I want to think about now though. I’m just glad that this past week has sort of made Layla forget that we actually did have a puppy in the house. She knows he is sick at the Dr but shes not so upset about it anymore.

OMG Megan, I don’t know what to say other than how sorry I am to hear about Bunker. What an awful thing to go through right after bringing him into your family.
