Layla is 8: Magic Tree House Party!

Our little weirdo turned 8 on Saturday. I can’t believe we have an 8 year old. She is amazingly smart and funny and a really sweet person. She’s an awesome big sister too. I’m proud to be her mommy 🙂

Now, onto the fun stuff.

Since her birthday was on a Saturday we actually had her party ON her birthday. Fun stuff! Especially since last year she spent her birthday on a plane flying to Korea.

After breakfast we were able to get Thomo on FaceTime so he could wish her a happy birthday and be a part of her opening presents from us before her party.

#1.

Kindle!

#2.

Just Dance!

She was a little unsure at first about both gifts. She had no idea what the kindle was until I told her and Just Dance made her nervous. She is super shy about doing things in front of people…poor thing, I wonder who she got that from?!

Anywho, I showed her all the books she has on her kindle (All of the Harry Potter and Roald Dahl books!) and she was pretty excited about it! And Just Dance is now her new favorite thing to do. I like it too 😉

This year’s party had a Magic Tree House theme. It’s her current favorite book series. We took a few books and did activities to go with each one. All the guests got a red backpack and a notebook as well (Like Jack has from the books) as well as goodies from each activity.

As much as I hate them we did have some cupcakes.

Needed something to put the candles in and I had the stand…so why not.

Once everyone had arrived we started our first activity.A scavenger hunt following rainbow colored clue cards to find a ‘pot of gold’. This went with the book Leprechauns in Late Winter.

I gave them the first clue which they had to solve so they could figure out where the next one was.

They took turns reading clues and then all ran to find the next one.

Finally at the end they all got a bag of gold (chocolate) coins.

Gold!

The next book was High Tide in Hawaii. We all got leis and played ‘pass the coconut’ aka hot potato! I had the main song from Lilo and Stitch playing and whoever had the balloon when I paused it was out. Over and over. Prolly our least favorite game. No one was happy about getting out 😉

The third book we used was Pirates Past Noon. We played a game of pin the eye patch on the pirate! Even Timmy got a turn.

Arrrgh!

Our final book was Mummies in the Morning. We broke off into teams and wrapped our partners up into toilet paper mummies.

It turned into everyone wrap Layla up as the biggest mummy ever

Finally it was time for sugar over load. Ice cream sundaes complete with Neapolitan ice cream, chocolate and caramel sauce, sprinkles, sprinkles, whipped cream, and cherries on top.

And finally the candles, cupcakes, and singing.

The party ended with empty gift bags and a house full of paper and balloons. Overall I think the day was a success! Layla had a total blast and that’s the most important thing.

Now…next weekend Timmy turns 3! His party isn’t until the end of the month.

This mamma needs a break.
