3 Days in New York City – Day 1

We just spent 3 days in New York City walking all the miles and eating all the things. We didn’t really have a goal with this trip other than eat something small at multiple places and take pictures of things. No shows to see or specific places to hit (ok, we each had a couple we wanted), just a lot of wandering around and seeing what we could see.

I went last year in October with a bestie and I realize now I’ve never shared that. We saw a lot of the same sites but ate at a lot of different places. You can see all those photos here: NYC – 2021. That first trip included half the amount of walking, lunch and a sundae at Serendipity 3 , pre-show dinner at Bond 45, and brunch at Liberty Bistro. We saw Hamilton and went to the Top of the Rock. We also hit up a couple of thrift shops and the Drama Book Shop. On that trip we stayed at the Moxy Times Square.

3 Days in New York – 2022

Day 1 – We took the early train in from Baltimore (about 2.5 – 3 hours) and arrived around 10 am. Walked to the hotel to check in and dump our stuff. This time we stayed at the Marriot Marquis – Times Square. From there a couple of trains took us into Flushing, Queens where I sang the Nanny theme song over and over in my head. Flushing gave me fewer Nanny vibes though and made me feel like we were back in Korea. I LOVED it.
Stops were…
Nan Xiang Xiao Long Bao for soup dumplings and Shanghai Siu Mai
New Flushing Bakery for a Portuguese Egg Custard and a coconut custard
Xing Fu Tang for a Dalgona Coffee Boba Milk and a Brown Sugar Boba Milk

After snacking and grabbing a boba drink, we walked over to the Flushing Meadows Corona Park to see the things there, including the Unisphere and an LL Cool J statue.

When we were done in Flushing, we got back on the train to head to DUMBO, Brooklyn. I had to get a photo of the Manhattan Bridge between the buildings like all the Instagrammers. We walked around that area trying to decide if we were ready for more snacks but decided to keep walking and head over the Brooklyn Bridge instead.

Once we got back into Manhattan, we started walking toward Chinatown and Little Italy. We stopped at the New York County Supreme Court building which was blocked off with a small crowd gathering around. We thought maybe some big case had finished and we were waiting for someone cool to come out. Turns out they were rehearsing and preparing to film an episode of Law and Order. I wish I watched that because then seeing the actors pretend to be shot and tackled to the ground might mean more to me. There was a kid (young adult) walking back and forth telling people not to take photos. I may have been the only one that listened. We made it to Little Italy and walked by all the places before stopping for a drink and another snack at Marcellino. We had the Dolce Brushchette and an Aperol spritz.

And then I saw a Mr. Softee truck and got all the In the Heights songs stuck in my head for the rest of the walk back toward the hotel. Unfortunately, no Chris Jackson hanging out of this window.

After our break, we walked back up by Union Square Park, cut over to see the Flatiron Building because Spider-Man, then popped into the Patent Pending speakeasy located in the back of the Patent Coffee on 27th. Super fun menu and more snacks from that spot. Back up to Times Square to search for a cheap slice of pizza to end the night. We popped into Little Italy Pizza to check that box. But just kidding because we had credit to our Marriott account to use on food, so we got dessert at the Broadway Lounge. NOW we were done with Day 1.
