Just thought, because I was curious, that I wanted to really know if the way I drink coffee now is making any difference.
When I first started learning to eat better (still a challenge…) the one thing I was dead set to keep was my morning coffee. I had given up too many sweet addictions already and changed so many other elements that I should be able to keep this ONE thing, right?
I tried the almond milk thing…and I dont like it. I use almond milk in a lot of things but not my coffee. Gross.
Recently I bought a carton of half n half and figured I’d give it a try.
Anywho, my morning coffee used to be: Giant mug of coffee, 1-2 tsp white sugar, and whatever flavored yummy bottled coffee creamer I had at the time.
Lately I’ve been drinking: Giant mug of coffee, 1 packet Stevia, splash of fat free half n half (1-2tbsp depending on how big my cup is) and a capful of sugar free caramel syrup (the flavored syrups you find in the coffee isle).
This morning I entered all the ingredients into My Fitness Pal and this is what it came up with. It’s entered as the serving size…so 8oz coffee, 1 tsp sugar, 1tbsp creamer…I don’t know about you but I don’t usually stop at 8oz of coffee…and more coffee means more to add to it.
Obviously my new version is a bit more loaded with sodium…but also less sugar, more protein, less carbs…
I think it wins, yes? But Im no pro. It just makes sense to me.
Another little trick I use that I found on another blog is to shake some cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice into the coffee filter/grounds before turning on the coffee pot. Easy peasy flavored coffee…then pair that WITH the caramel syrup. Yuuum.
I recently gave up the flavored creamers when I did some research on the hydrogenated oils that are in them. Now I just have half & half. No sugar or flavor. It’s bland, but I drink it slower this way and I’m less tempted to have more than one. I have to have my coffee…even if I don’t enjoy it. LOL weird.
Hmm you have me thinking…at 6:28am….while sitting here with my peppermint flavored coffee… I need to start loggin on my fitness pal again too.
I wish I liked black coffee.
