Not Bummer Summer – Ride a Train

Like everything else I do, we are now trying to bust through L’s Not Bummer Summer list the week before school starts. I’m awesome at procrastinating. Saturday we managed to have a day together and decided to cross “Ride a Train” off of the list.

We didn’t have much of a plan when we started…just headed toward Seoul. T wanted to show me the electronics market where there is a sea of cameras. Then from there maybe check out some other places a friend of his gave him directions to. Lunch in there somewhere…

So we headed for the train station. I took this at a red light. The way they squat makes my knees hurt.

Waiting on the train. Timmy was SO excited.

L said it was too bright to look at me.

When we got our tickets there was standing room only…which worked out for us. We hung out in the food car. SO so nice for Timmy to have free reign and not be tied down to a seat.

He made lots of friends. He loves the women and they love him. The old men love him too but he just stood still and glared at them when they talked to him. :/

Then it was lunch time. Or that was the plan. We decided to hop on the subway to go down a few stops to try to find this artsy market that I cant remember the name of.

hooray for elevators

There were so many neat little things there! Very much set up for tourists. I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many white people off post in a non-roller derby environment. It was weird.

After doing a lap around the place we were all starving (except Timmy who was passed out in the stroller thankfully) so we ducked into an Italian place called Agio. Super cute place. Since I didn’t take many pictures inside (dumb) you can look at a pictures I found on a blog HERE.

We got the BBQ chicken pizza, a pasta in cream sauce with gorgonzola and chicken…or something like that, and a regular pasta with tomato sauce. It was all pretty good. The pasta that T and I split was super yummy. Pizza didn’t taste like bbq pizza Im used to but Layla ate some so it was perfect enough for me! And her pasta was just right for her. Just noodles and tomatoes. Too bland for Thomas but she scarfed.

We strolled back through the market in much better moods now that we were fed and headed back to the train.

When we got back down to into the subway Timmy was awake and needed bites. We stopped at a little convenience store/stand/thing. I grabbed a yogurt drink and what I thought were gold fish.

They were not. They looked like little sea animal crackers but were like…beef and veggie flavored? Thats what Im guessing by the picture of beef and veggies on the box that I saw after we bought and opened them. Timmy loved them. So did Layla. T said they were gross…I didn’t test it out 😉

We took the subway down a couple stops to Seoul Station where we got back on a big train toward Pyeongtaek.

That’s when I stopped taking pictures. We were tired and enjoyed a quietish train ride home. Back in the food car. The first time we took a train (this was only our second trip) we had seats. Timmy was not a fan of being still. This time I asked T why he didn’t tell me this was an option. SO nice. We had benches this time but the floor was just as nice before. Timmy made another friend but once we started going he spent most of the time on a bench playing angry birds on my phone.

Here are a few more Instagram pictures.

Today we had planned on a beach trip but now it’s raining. Didn’t plan for that…no idea what to do now :/ Time to start searching.

  1. Just Awesome!!! I love all your pictures and your commentary!! I am so happy you are all enjoying Korea!! Love ya Mom

  2. Yay! I love all of your pictures of Korea! It really inspires me to take more pictures of the sites we see here. I really don’t have any photos of Pyeongtaek or even Seoul. I may just have to steal some of yours if I don’t get my act together! Do you think I’ll need a 35mm for that? Sometimes I feel like my 50 chops off a lot and I can’t get buildings into it. ???
