On Monday we had planned a family beach day to check off another one of Layla’s Not Bummer Summer activities. Well it dumped rain. We needed something indoors to do and ended up making the drive to Seoul to check out Lotte World for the first time.
(I just typed that last sentence completely not looking at the computer. We are watching Lord of the Rings 2. Thomo was pretty impressed I think.)
Anywho, if you want to get to Lotte World (fairly large indoor/outdoor amusement park as well as a big shopping mall with a Toys R Us!) by train then here is a map I found. It’s at Jamsil station.
We ended up driving ourselves though since we had just done the whole train thing a couple days before. It’s super easy to drive yourself. Get on big hwy 1 and take it all the way up to Seoul. You will end up getting off at the Yangjae Station exit to the right. Follow that road down until it Y’s. At the Y turn right and you will have your parking garage on the left and the amusement park on either side of you with a bridge going over the road.
We had to do a Uturn to get back to get back to the parking. Not sure if that’s just because we missed it or because we couldn’t get it. You could also go left at the Y and drive around the block. Either way…
Parking is free for the first 3 hours with park tickets and I think 1000w an hour after that. Unless you shop of course. Receipts = discount. We were there for maybe 5 hours total but also ate at the TGI Fridays there and ended up getting free parking.
Also, they have a pretty sweet military discount!
And now for a Lotte World photo dump.
The place was pretty overwhelming and we weren’t sure where to start so we decided to walk around and see what all there was. There was an ice rink on the bottom floor and balloons hanging from the roof that you could ride in to circle the whole inside area.
Thomo and Layla really wanted to ride in them but I was sure Timmy would find a way to jump out. Major mommy anxiety.
While walking around we caught the parade starting. We are in South Korea…what better theme for a parade is there than…
RIO! Timmy was crazy excited. He saw the floats and started yelling Rio. Think we’ve seen the movie a few times??
Half of my pictures were pretty much of the parade.
Front row seats
But I only loaded a few…when it was done we turned around and headed the other way
While there was a break in the rain we headed outside to see what there was
L looking a bit scraggly. I spose I could have tucked the hair before taking a picture. Oh well.
We weren’t outside long. It started raining again.
We came in and decided to head to the top floor to ride the little tram around the top. Another panic attack while I was sure Timmy would fling the door open and leap out.
Some walking around…
Giant snow globe
Then there was music…the Rio dancers were up on stage. When they finished their dance we were told to turn and look the other way…drums!
And we all yelled “SNOW PARTAAAAY!”
And foam ‘snow’ spewed out of every vent in the place
It was pretty neat. Timmy was having a blast catching it and L somehow caught one one her tongue “not on purpose” and said it tasted like soap. Duh.
Eventually we ended up in the Folk Village. It was pretty much a Korean history museum. Starting with dinosaurs. T did his best to rush past the screaming Trex so we could avoid another scary dino melt down.
Instead we checked out a screamed pig 😐
Lots of neat stuff to check out there
I forgot to mention that we took the kids on the Sinbad ride. Imagine Pirates of the Caribbean meets Aladdin…dubbed in Korean. It was awesome. And dark and scary and LOUD with a boat that dropped 2 short drops. Layla was FREAKED. “I WANT OFF RIGHT NOW!” Where do you think you’re going to go?! Timmy however had a blast. Poor scared Layla.
So, before we leave we decide to do one more ride. Just me and Layla. The teacups. Actually they’re baskets but same difference.
“Just dont make it spin ok? Just let it go and we wont spin we will just ride. ok?!” “Ok sweetie :)”
I spun it. But really only one good loop because she’s STRONG. She held that wheel and would. not. let. me. turn it.
She had fun though. Once we were off it was fun.
When we were done with the park we went to the TGI Fridays right there in the building. It was decent…until I saw this
33,000 won for a bottle of Yellow Tail Moscato. Holy. Moly.
After that we drove home in more rain. Crazy hard rain. It was awesome.
And that’s all! Our trip to Lotte World 🙂
I love seeing the pics in Flickr and enjoying them without any commentary and then getting the backstory on some of them later…especially the one of Layla in the teacup. Poor thing. So tell me more about TGIFridays…how yummy was it?
Finally a good shot of Thomas!!! I love all your pictures!! It reminds me of Disneyland! I bet it was fun!! I could just hear Layla yelling to get out of that ride!!! She must take after her JuJu!!! 🙂
What is this place??
I went through the photos first without reading and I was like WTF. LOL Korea is the most bizarre place on earth. Rio dancers…at Korean Disney World…and dinosaurs…in a mall. BIZARRE.
Looks like fun though.
