The death doesn’t stop there. I had some pretty plant with vines and pink flowers in a pot. It’s done.
And the bougainvillea I think it is that came with the house…it had never bloomed but was still green and leafy. Not sure if it’s coming back or not.
There were some plants though that didn’t totally die. Like this one…I dont know the name but it came with a pink flower and it started to climb a bit. I took off the dead parts and this is what is left
These little impatients…they rock. I KILLED my impatients in Hawaii big time. These came in a 6 pack and were all but dead. Little sticks with a few leaves. I put them all in little pots and they bloomed! A lot! Now I have the survivors all in one bigger pot and theyre still holding on…
Through the winter I never cut back/covered/watered the rose bushes out front and they were coming back like crazy! There are new purple leaves all over the place. Not sure if I should have cut them all to the same size or not but even the little sad one on the end is looking like this year will be a good one for it.
And finally my potted hydrangea. I dug these out of Melissa’s driveway because she hates the color of them. They’re all over her yard and I LOVE them so I stole 2. One biggish one and one small deadish one. The little one didnt like the move but the big one did ok. I think spending most of their time on the porch this winter helped. They were never brown and crunchy like the ones out in the ground get.
Yesterday we made a trip to Lowes for a grill, shop vac, and carpet cleaner and came back with all that an some. I got some new plants to fill in the blanks. That is of course hoping the hubiscus comes back but from what Ive read I dont think it will.
First we have a little bag of Walmart Strawberries that was a couple bucks so I thought why not. Its SAD looking! Hopefully it actually grows.
At Lowes I got some Cilantro. When I look for it at the store there is always 1 left and its wilty. We’ll see if having my own is better or not.
I got a couple pots of azaleas to fill in dead spots by the roses
And some iris (my faaaavorite!) to put in the back of it all
These plants are another Walmart buy. Ive seen these and might have had some growing up and wanted some for our house here but could NOT think of the name. Thank you Google and my mom! I found them as wandering jews but Walmart has them labeled as purple hearts. I got 2.
And because I know I can’t kill it I got 2 different colors of Lantana. And another pinky flower that was near them.
And thats it! Now I need to get my butt out there and plant. Im thinking AFTER Terminix comes and digs trenches around the house for Termite protection on Monday. Bad plant buying timing on my part. Now to find replacements for the hibiscus.
Oh, pretty!! I love flowers. Unfortunately, I have a knack for killing them, unlike my relentlessly green-thumbed mother who can bring plants back from the brink of death.
I might try my hand at some this year. Who knows? Maybe they’ll live!!
how pretty !!!! i cant keep anything alive either & im a HORRIBLE green thumb come winter …. ooops !!!!
although that Lantana ROCKS, just WAIT, butterflies will LOVE you !!!!
The planting sounds like so much fun! If you need help, I have gloves and a little “helper” that comes with me! I miss gardening since I’ve been here b/c back home I can pretty much do it all year round.
Cut the bouganvilla back to 1/2 inch above dirt and keep in garage during winter and you should be fine….You might be able to save if you trim and fertilize.
Pretty!! Wish I had a green thumb! I love to have flowers/plants around, they just dontlast long around me.
