What Have I Started?

First off, did I sound mean yesterday talking about my OCD friends? Looking back it sort of sounds like I was. I REALLY didn’t mean it to come off that way at all. I would kill to be half as tidy and organized as they are but I’m just not. I try and I fail. My house would like my more if I was I’m sure. I just wanted to clear that up just in case I’m not the only one thinking it sounded a bit harsh. I meant it out of love and jealousy I promise!

Now…onto today. Nothing clears up a photo funk like some home improvement! Since we moved in I have been really not liking the shiny gold hardware in the kitchen. I guess it sort of matches the counters…but its just so SHINY. When I figured out how much there was and how much NEW hardware cost I tossed that idea out the window and decided to spray paint them all a more chromey color. Is chromey a word? You know what I mean. Anyway, I have ALSO been wanting open cabinets for a long long time but was worried that open on the dishes side and closed on the food side would look wacky.

Now THAT brings me to Darby. I came across her blog by stalking the “Top Enterprise Blogs” on Feedjit. I am seriously loving her blog. I love her style, her projects, her writing…it’s just a fun blog that I look forward to reading. She posted pictures of her kitchen with half open cabinets and half closed and you know what? It doesn’t look wacky. Not hers anyway. So I’m giving it a go. I took them all down to get the hardware off and decided to leave them down.

I think they might be too cluttered though. And colorful.

Although it did give me an excuse to somewhat organize my gladware and plastic pitchers on the top shelves that were just thrown up there.

So now do I leave them off and fix up where they were all screwed in or so I paint the hardware on those doors too and hang them back up…

Either way I have started now so SOMETHING will be done. That gold shine has got to go. But chromey wont so much go with the tan-ish counters. What about coppery? I just don’t know.

Lets just pray I actually finish. We’re pretty good at starting projects then getting distracted by something shiny (like the hardware) and not finishing…Like this. Remember the old oven?

Then we ripped it out along with the cook top to add the new range. The big open hole was supposed to be a pantry or big drawers or anything actually finished. Once we got the range in though which was top priority the rest of it just kind of became a “We need to finish that some day…” project. So I threw some cowboys on it.

They’re pretty cute. They also hide what is inside. Unfinished space and large boxes of Sam’s Club stuff that I don’t know what else to do with…

We’ll finish it some day.

PS- My blog had it’s 1st birthday this month! Now if I can and if I remember I will post a link to what I was blogging about a year ago. Like this:

  1. You could do glass cabinets. I always loved that look. Don’t know how expensive it would be.

  2. Just me~ Bobbie Jo

Love the changes. BTW I so would do the silver/chrome knobs. I think it would look good!

Bronze or pewter them! Home Depot has kits that make it SO easy to do. I did it with the ones in our place in Florida and it was super easy. I’d be glad to help as I am done with projects around here. As for the cabinets…I like it both ways.

P.S. Didn’t come off as harsh to me, I just missed my bloggy reading yesterday (sick Pres-ear infection confirmed at doc today) or I would have commented yesterday.

    P.P.S. I love the cowboys!

  4. Where the cowboys are….you could turn that into a trash closet! My parents have a trash closet. I love it….hides the trash and somewhat the trash smell lol.

Okay the cabinets. My OCDness tells me that what you put in those cabinets need to be grouped in order to attract and not distract the eye. Similiar colors, etc. If you can’t group it like that I would go with the decorative baskets to conceal what you don’t want to stare at as soon as you walk into the kitchen…cause you know you will! And then you will feel like everything is constantly cluttered even if it’s put away where it belongs. *sigh* I just need to fly down and help you lol.
