Layla and I loaded up in the car with Melissa and her kids (‘MelissaLacie’sMom’ that is…How did I manage to find 2 good friends BOTH named Melissa W.? Both have 2 kids. Both have a girl a few weeks older than Layla.) and headed down to Destin, Fl. It was my first time there and I absolutely loved it. At least what I saw of the town and the military beach with lots of open parking. I can’t wait to go back to go shopping 🙂
Any who, the 2 hour drive with 3 kids wasn’t nearly as bad as it could have been. I was tired of the car before they were. And Layla and Lacie did an awesome job at taking turns with one Leapster.
I enjoyed the site seeing along the way…
When we got there the girls decided playing in the sand was better than lunch.
Alek wanted his food. And theirs too. He ate it along with about 2 cups of sand.
It was a little windy which was nice. Without the wind we might have melted. Layla was loving the beach and I was cringing at the amount of sand she was covering herself in.
Layla said “Don’t cover my face!”
Meanwhile, Alek was coming back for more cookies
For you Hawaii folks, the sand there is a lot like Bellows. The fine white powder that doesn’t wipe off…or even wash off very easily. But it was still great to be there even if we didn’t get IN the water.
Toto, I have a feeling we’re not in Hawaii anymore…
Some people were in the water (which kinda creeped me out) but there was noooo way I was getting in. I JUST became ok with the crystal clear Hawaii water. This scurred me.
Alek thought I wanted a chunk of the dried green slime.
Melissa asked me for a picture of her and the kids since her camera was acting funky. It is not easy to get 2 kids to look at you and be happy about it. Especially when they could be playing in the sand.
And of course…the birds.
mine mine mine mine mine mine mine
MOST of the drive home went as good as the drive there. Until kids got tired and Layla decided it was fun to start pressing Lacie’s buttons. I guess Lacie was yelling at Layla for touching her with her foot. And what do we see Layla doing when Lacie passed out?
What a jerk. A jerk with a big ol’ “I know what I’m doing” smile on her face.
OMG love the "mine mine mine mine…." I laughed out loud! The water was super nasty green! I learned from a friend of mine who lives in Jacksonville that the nasty green is caused by the algae bloom. Ick.
Gross, I've been to Destin tons of times and NEVER seen it green like that. It's usualy crystal clear. WEIRD! I wonder what was going on?
Anyway, looks like a great day! Maybe next time the water will be nicer, though.
looks like a fun trip! and too bad you caught the water in it's funky stage…. those big, white beaches make me want to head over….destin is great!
the photos are beautiful, too…so vivid and summery!
Um…EWWWW! Wow I am going to miss this clear blue water so bad!!!
Looks like a great time! I love Destin and you'll have to check it out again when the algae goes away.
Hey wanna make another trip down there at the beginning of August? Ill be going to Panama City for a week but Destin isnt too far!!
